The Fame Fest, put on in Italy by Studio Crombie, just ended and judging by the photos it was a stunner. The show had site specific work from Blu, JR, Bo130, Microbo, Ethos, Erica il Cane, Mantis, Sickboy, Conor Harrington, Above and quite a few others. Have a sample:

I’m saddened to see that São Paulo’s Beco do Batman (aka Graffiti Alley), a street art landmark, was recently marred by the Movimento Pixação. Pixação is brazil’s own style for tagging, and this specific group of pixadores (ones who write pixação) recently became organized. So far they have attacked an art university, Choque Cultural (a gallery centered on street artists), and some large pieces in Paulista; and just this past weekend they attacked the São Paulo Biennial.
I hope the situation there gets resolved soon as, besides the destruction by the pixodores, this could result in a severe crackdown on ALL forms of street art (more extreme than the former mayor’s buffing) from the authorities (it has gotten media attention in the country).
For those of you who have never been to Beco do Batman, its a three-block stretch of walls by some of Brazil’s finest painters. To give you an idea of the space and the work, here are some photos taken in late 2007:

Looks like Mr. Twist is passing through…

Be sure to check out pix from his surprise show at Ratio 3 in SF which just ended.
Nick Walker continues the large-scale pieces we’ve been seeing in town with this one in the East Village.

NY has been lucky enough to host a bunch of west coasters lately, and today we bring you the latest from Armer:

Two shows just opened at the Jonathan Levine Gallery: NYC’s own Doze Green’s N.O.O.N. and French stencil artist Blek le Rat’s Paris-New York, New York-Paris. Blek le Rat’s version of the last supper was quite nice, and Doze Green’s pieces were great all-around. You can’t miss the huge collab between Doze Green and Brazilain Fefê Talavera (they recently did a show together in Amsterdam, where this piece was made). Here are a handful of pix…
